Karachi: Polling time for by-election in constituency 240 has ended
KARACHI (92 News) – During the by-elections in Karachi NA-240, a scuffle broke out among the workers of political parties, hand-to-hand fighting, use of sticks and batons, stones and ballot boxes were also taken away.
Tough competition is expected between MQM, PPP, Pak Sarzamin Party and Tahrik-e-Labeek. PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami have boycotted the election.
The total number of voters in the constituency is 529,855. Two hundred and ninety four thousand three hundred and eighty five male and two hundred and fifty five thousand four hundred and seventy female voters. Three hundred and nine polling stations and twelve hundred and thirty six polling booths have been set up in the constituency. Two hundred and three polling stations have been declared highly sensitive and one hundred and six sensitive.
Polling began at 8 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 5 p.m. Police personnel have been deployed outside each polling station while additional police personnel have also been deployed outside sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations. The seat was vacated due to the death of MQM leader and National Assembly member Iqbal Muhammad Ali.
