Six minor boys raped a 11 year old girl in Jharkhand’s Khunti district and were later sent to a child correction home. Police reported that the girl had attended a wedding reception in the village on April 19 in a village under the jurisdiction of the Tapkara police station, before she was abducted by the Six boys aged between 10-16 and was gang raped which was discovered on April 23.

According to Khunti Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar, the action was taken when a complaint was filed by the survivor on Wednesday.

“We began the investigation shortly after the complaint was filed. We have apprehended all six accused, who range in age from 10 to 16 years old,” Kumar said. “We brought them before the magistrate, who sentenced them to a child correctional facility.”

It was reported that 4 boys among the 6 total boys were known to the victim and statements of five people have been recorded including the girl’s parents, the girl, and two of her friends before the magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure).

The case was first taken at the panchayat level due to which they delayed in reporting it to the police. “We specifically asked the survivor if she was under any pressure not to file the complaint, which she denied,” Kumar said. He added that “Her parents expressed concern about the social stigma, but ultimately decided to file the complaint.”
